Victory Vitamin Blog – Romans 5:1 NIV

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,”

– Romans 5:1 NIV

I don’t think I need to tell you that we live in dangerous times.  I know my parents and grandparents would have said the same thing, but that doesn’t make it any less true for us today.  There are any number of people and things that are “out to get you”.  There’s the fear of joblessness and financial ruin, cancer, cyber thieves, psychotic, evil terrorists.  In light of all the potential dangers it’s comforting to know that we are at eternal peace with God through Jesus Christ.  Imagine the dread of living life without God on your side.  But He is on your side.  He loves you, and has proven it by becoming human in Jesus, dying on the cross to pay for your sins, and rising from the dead to ensure that you will do the same.  The Apostle Paul asks a great question in the Bible, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”  (Romans 8:31)  We’re at peace with God and no one can take from us what Jesus has given to us.  Forgiveness and eternal life.  For that reason we can live in peace, and die in peace.  God has got your back, your front, and both sides.  Nothing will happen to you in this life that God will not bring you through.  That includes death.  So, we live our days in peace with our Creator through faith in Jesus.  It’s not that we’re oblivious to the danger around us, it’s just that we’re able to put it all in proper perspective.  Martin Luther wrote, “and take they our life, goods, fame, child or wife, though these all be gone, they yet have nothing won.  The Kingdom remains ours.”  Relax.  Live in the peace that Jesus has earned for you.

Victory Vitamin Blog – Mark 1:43-45

“Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning:  ‘See that you don’t tell this to anyone.’  Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news.”

– Mark 1:43-45

Wow.  Blatant disregard for Jesus’ warning.  Not cool.  However, in fairness to the unnamed rebel referenced above, he had just been rescued from certain death.  The unnamed man had leprosy.  He approached Jesus and asked for healing.  Jesus had compassion on him and healed him instantly.  Leprosy was a death sentence.  It meant up to a decade of slow, painful, disfiguration resulting in death.  Jesus gave this guy a new lease on life!  Yes, Jesus strongly warned this man not to spread the word, but what else could the man do?  He had been given new life.  He had been healed from a very visible disease so people saw the change in him.  How could he keep that miracle to himself?  In a strikingly similar way, you and I have been given a new lease on life, as well as the certainty of eternal life with Christ.  Jesus saw our sinful state and knew that we were doomed.  So He took our sickness upon Himself on the cross.  He died, destroying the power of sin forever.  Through faith in Jesus we have a new lease on life!  I pray people see the change in you!  But rather than a warning to keep quiet, Jesus gives us the freedom, the privilege, the marching order to share this cure for sin with everyone.  How can we keep that miracle to ourselves?

Victory Vitamin Blog – Isaiah 40:31 NIV

“those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

– Isaiah 40:31 NIV

It’s been said, “It’s hard to soar with the eagles when you’re surrounded by turkeys”.   The implication is that you’re circumstances are more powerful than your potential.  I disagree.  If you read Isaiah chapter 40, it becomes clear that God is the one who gives strength.  It’s a strength of the soul and spirit, but I would argue that strength of spirit is what fuels strength of the mind and body.  In Isaiah 40 we read about the power and supremacy of God; how He created and rules over all things.  How He orchestrates the stars in the universe and events on earth.  Then God says, “those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.  The will soar on wings like eagles.”  The almighty God shares His power with those who hope and trust in Him.  How?  Through faith in Jesus.  Jesus showed supernatural strength by remaining on the cross when He could have escaped.  He shares that strength with you in your hard times through faith.  Jesus soared from the tomb and ascended into heaven so that we could have the assurance that life eternal waits for us.  Your circumstances do not control you.  God gives you the strength to soar above it all through faith in Jesus.  He has already won the victory over sin and death for you.  No earthly event can rob you of that gift.
