Victory Vitamin Blog – 1 Kings 3:9

“So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”

-1 Kings 3:9 NIV

Solomon had been pronounced king at the tender age of 12.  Yup, 12.  The LORD told Solomon to ask  for anything he wanted, and Solomon asked for a discerning heart.  God was obviously pleased that Solomon didn’t ask for  an XBox One, or a hoverboard, so God granted Him “a wise and discerning heart”.  All three of the Bible readings for this Sunday talk about wisdom.  Wisdom isn’t just knowledge, it’s the prudent application of that knowledge.  There is one field of knowledge that is more beneficial than the rest, and that is knowledge of God’s will.  The book of Proverbs tells us, “Fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”  The better we know the will of God in the Bible, the better equipped we are to apply it in our daily lives.  Be wise to the love God showed when He became a human in the person of Jesus and died so that we could be forgiven.  Be wise to the instructions God gives on how to live a godly life in this world.  Resolve this year to spend time reading the Bible.  You’ll be wiser for it.

Happy New Year in the Lord!
