Victory Vitamin Blog – Luke 11:1

“Lord, teach us to pray”

-Luke 11:1 NIV

Are you thankful for air conditioning?  Me too, but it’s one of those things that I don’t fully appreciate until it’s stops working.  Likewise, Prayer is a privilege many Christians take for granted.  What if we had no way to communicate with God?  How terrifying!  Thanks be to God, that will never happen.  He invites us to pray, teaches us to pray, and promises to listen and respond.  Though Jesus provides the perfect prayer in the Lord’s Prayer, we’re able to pray to God anywhere, anytime, with any words.  We can speak out loud, or we can communicate with God through our thoughts.  It’s a great way to be reminded that God is with us everywhere, all the time.  Prayer is a great reminder that God cares and God listens.  God has already met our greatest need through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Now through faith in Him, our sins are forgiven and eternal life is secure.  Knowing that God cares, we can approach Him boldly and confidently in prayer, trusting that He will respond in the best way, at the best time.  Take full advantage of the great gift of prayer.  Why not thank God in prayer right now for the gift of air conditioning?

Victory Vitamin Blog – Luke 10:42

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed.  Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

-Luke 10:42 NIV

To set the stage:  Mary and Martha had invited Jesus and the disciples into their house.  When these words were spoken, Martha was busy making dinner, while Mary was sitting on the floor at Jesus’ feet listening to Him talk.  Martha complained to Jesus about Mary’s sloth, and that’s when Jesus spoke these words.  We’re awfully busy these days, and by awfully, I mean It’s awful.  There doesn’t seem to by any pickin’ or grinnin’ or front porch sittin’ like there used to be.  Jesus’ words to Martha encourage us all to STOP.  Not permanently, but regularly.  We need to stop our busyness, figuratively sit down at the feet of Jesus, and listen to Him.  We hear His Word in the Bible, so that’s where we need to go. Take time out of your week to worship.  Make it a priority!  Take time out of your day at work or at play to think about God, recall some Scripture, and pray.  Yes, we need to work, and we are to work diligently, but Jesus’ Words reminds us that we don’t live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.  Stop!  Jesus time.
