‘No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.’
-Luke 9:62 NIV
The story is that a man went to get a tattoo that said “NO REGRETS” on his arm. The tattoo “artist” didn’t check the spelling and the man ended up with “NO REGERTS” on his arm and a healthy dose of regret. A “no regrets” attitude can be dangerous, but Jesus encourages us to jump in with both feet when it comes to discipleship. In the verse above we see that Jesus requires a “no regrets”, “full steam ahead” attitude from those who follow Him. We are to put God first in our lives and make His mission our primary mission. Jesus put us first when He boldly, intentionally went to Jerusalem knowing that He would be arrested and crucified. His love for you made Him bold to act. His love for us now makes us bold to act, sharing His love in words and actions, and asking others if they know just how much God loves them. God promises, “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.” (Revelation 2:10 NIV) Those words remind us that a full commitment to serving Christ is one thing we will never regert.
